I discovered that one of the collectors on Facebook lives in a neighboring town. We met at my home today and traded a little Pyrex, talked Pyrex and other vintage goodies. She also had with her, her lovely daughter and goat, yes, a goat. She has a handful of goats and chickens. She brought me these beautiful eggs from her girls. It was nice to meet up and do a local trade. I look forward to seeing her again!

My New Girl - Anchor Hocking
I am over the moon!!!! I found a lid last year and I knew exactly what it went to. I really never thought I'd be so lucky to get the bottom. I got the bug to ask in one of the Pyrex groups if anyone had ANY pieces to this pattern. Lo and behold, I was offered the mate to my lid. It is Anchor Hocking, painted on clear glass in a beautiful orange red. The pendant light on my table just makes it glow. I haven't found or traded for anything exciting in quite sometime. Kinda of glad I haven't, it makes this that much more exciting! This piece is a generous 9.5" in diameter.

Vintage Thrift Store Finds and Le Creuset
I've been going thrifting more infrequently, working on curbing any hoarding tendencies. I am also working hard to get things I will actually use, gift or know I can definitely sell or trade. Well, the occasional "I can live without this but I'm gonna buy it anyway" creeps in, but I think I'm doing pretty good for the most part!
Here are some goodies I got. In the years I've been collecting, I have never found any Pyrex Woodland or unmarked opal refrigerator dishes in the thrift stores. I was delighted to run into these. The turquoise dish is Maid of Honor with a Glasbake lid. I am so thrilled to have found this Le Creuset skillet. The Lodge skillet I have is too tall, too heavy and too hard to clean, plus it's not enameled. This is one of those items that gets used in our house practically everyday, I used it yesterday and just loved it!

In the Kitchen - Parsnip Fries!
I've been trying to find some interesting and inspiring recipes recently that work within the limits of my diet. No gluten, no grains and low starch is a challenge. Root vegetables are starchy, but I limit how much I eat and eat them infrequently. Today I tried this parsnip fry recipe. You just slice up the parsnip, coat in olive oil, some salt and pepper and spread them out on a cookie sheet. Bake at 375 10 minutes, turn over and another 10 minutes and that's it! Hubby gave them a big thumbs up! I was satisfied to only eat a small amount, they have a lot of texture and flavor--it was enough to satisfy my craving!

Pyrex in Action - Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Nut Free Burger Bun
I'm on a roll trying recipes for bread substitutes. I made this recipe for burgers tonight and it is a winner!!! Hubby says I can make sandwiches for him to take to work with these!
Not much in the way of ingredients needed for it either...
Mix it up, spread it out and bake...
Once these got dressed up with homemade guacamole/bacon and sauces, we could hardly taste the tahini and the texture was great, didn't get soggy or fall apart.
You can get the recipe here. I made 4 pieces for 2 burgers from the recipe. And it was very filling!

In the Kitchen
I've been spending more time in the kitchen trying new recipes. I whipped up a double batch of the grain free/gluten free flat bread--I recently found the recipes on line. I'm getting quicker at it now and that is good because we love them and I need to keep them on hand. Here's the lunch I made hubby today--chicken salad sandwiches. And a little Pyrex in action picture.

What's Happenin'?!!! - I've Been Busy
I feel like I'm neglecting my blog. Doesn't help that hubby brought home a bug from school and I wasn't lucky enough to not catch it. I'm spending more time in the kitchen, getting back to what I need to do in terms of my demanding diet. Yesterday I cleaned my refrigerator.
I needed to pick up some groceries and do some prep and such, but I just couldn't let one more day pass before cleaning it out. And yes, there's a bunch of Pyrex in my fridge and I love it!
I've got this weird diet where I don't eat gluten or highly starchy foods. Bread of course is one of those things you can cry over when you can't eat it. I found a recipe for a substitute, it's a pita, naan, tortilla kind of thing and it has changed my life! Here is a breakfast sammich I made the other day with one of the 'breads' with some of my favorite vintage ware.
And I have steadily been bartering for broken Pyrex to make jewelry. Here are a couple pendants I shipped off yesterday to ladies that sent me glass. The maple leaf is Hazel Atlas.
And vintage finds from last month...
Cute set of Nantucket soup cups made in Japan...
Vintage Pendelfin bunnies in bed from England...
Hubby found Neil the Frog canisters to go with his other pieces and I got a pair of Miss Cute Pie shakers.
Foulard Pyrex mugs, Mary Hadley mugs, turquoise fondant/cookie cutters from Wilton made in Hong Kong and a sweet anthropomorphic creamer.
I've missed checking out other blogs and seeing what everyone is up to and all the cool stuff they've found. I need to carve out sometime to do that! I'm going to link up with Sir Thrift-A-Lot over at Thriftasaurus, check it out here. I spied a Pyrex Horizon Blue 024 over there!!!!
