Vintage Holiday Finds!

As usual, I'm in a rush to post.  I have a zillion things on my to do list, so I want to get this post done lickety split!

Some of my favorite finds this week are my holiday finds.  There was Pyrex too, but I just don't have time to photograph and post that.  So we'll wait another week for that!

Around my house we know how much I love vintage felt/velvet reindeer.  I have 3 smaller red and a moose, and 4 tan ones--I have plenty small ones now.  I can't believe my luck at finding a pair of the 15" tall beauties!  I'm so trying to not buy small kitsch because we just have enough! Hubby says these deer are so me.  Yeah, I know, I like some funky stuff--must be the artist in me!

Along with some vintage crafting goodies, I also got some of these little things.

And a selection of some special vintage glass ornaments...

I went to the flea market with a friend yesterday.  We decided to pay the exorbitant fee of $7.50 to get in early.  OMG--I can't believe I paid that!!!  I lucked out and found a hard to find Fire King bowl for an out of town friend who split the admission fee with me.  Phew--since I really didn't find much else! As much as I fought, I lost the fight to buying a Goebel bunny at an antique store price.

I already had the bunny on the right, my mom bought him in the 70s with the Goebel egg plate that looks like a leaf.  When I saw the bunny in the basket at the flea market, I wanted him, but $12?  The lady wouldn't come down.  She started educating me on how they go for $28.  One of the problems for me is I grew up with Goebel and Hummel and have more of it than I really want (but for sentimental reasons can't part with), so I just don't see it as so rare.  BUT!  This bunny is so darn cute.  We wandered around and ended up passing the seller's table again and I decided I would splurge and get it--EXCEPT she had market it up to $15!  Well, I wasn't going to pay that, I asked her if she would take $12 like she originally asked for and she agreed after a little thought.  No buyers remorse, I'm happy to have the little guy.

Well, I've already spent more time writing this post than I planned!  I'm going to link up with Sir-Thrift-A-Lot at thriftasaurus!  Go here and you can see lots of other vintage finds at the link up party!

  1. Those deer are amazing & I must get myself some by December!

I always love a knee hugger.

$7.50? LOL. Weird that it wouldn't be rounded to the dollar. It's like Earth Hour. Why is it 830 to 930, why not 8 to 9?

    1. Yeah, suppose they figured $7.50 sounded better than $8. You've got eight months to find those deer!!

  2. $7.50 to get in early? That's ridiculous. Prices at Flea Markets and Estate Sales are getting way out of control. Not so fun. I love your Christmas finds and your little bunny. Sometimes you just have to get something if it's speaking to your heart!

    1. Yes Erica, $7.50 is crazy and that flea market just isn't very good. Even regular admission of $1.50 is more than enough considering you are lucky if you walk out with something. People charge so much at them too, it's more like being at an antique store. I like to treasure hunt for fun--I don't NEED any of these things and I'm the type that the fun dissipates when it starts getting expensive. I've never been a gambler, so I doubt I'll pay that $7.50 ever again!

  3. I always pay the $7.50 to go in early and sometimes I kick myself for it because it totally wasn't worth it. But sometimes I find amazing things that I know wouldn't have been there had I waited until general admission so it all evens out in the end. I saw that bunny yesterday and picked it up too. I'm with you though on the price. It was a little steep. Weird that she wouldn't go down on her price with you. I bought a bowl from her that she knocked 2 bucks off for me. I guess she thought the bunny was super valuable and rare :-) Regardless, it's super cute and I'm happy you brought him home.

    Have an awesome week!

  4. Oh my goodness, those deer are so, so cute! They almost look French to me, like they might break into a can-can or something. I'm really glad you got that little bunny, I think he is a perfect companion to the one your Mom gave you. Lots of great Christmas finds, I wonder if it would have been there if you came later?
