Flea Market and Thrift Store Finds - Bunny Time!

It's been a little of this and a little of that lately. I have to remember what I got as I tend to want to put things away when I get home--I don't like clutter. Hopefully I haven't forgotten something fun!

I went to the flea market last week, which when I go I never expect I'll find anything.  There just isn't much of the kinds of things I look for and the few things I might like--well, I don't think they are worth the asking price.  I did find these goodies.  Five boxes of vintage chenille stems!  There are 100 in each box, three boxes made in Japan and two made in the US.  At a dollar a box I couldn't have been more pleased.  And an item on my wish list...

...sweet little putz house.  This is one of those tiny ones you can put on a tree.  This is the first one I've run into.  Actually, there were 6 or 7 of them, but this was the only color that fits the palette of my vintage wreath that I need it for. The others were more magenta and blue and those just aren't the type of colors I've been using in decorating.  They were a dollar each, I was pretty strong to pass the others up.

This is the wreath the little putz house will go on.  I still could use a few more little things for this wreath, not sure what.

There was a lady with a box of cards for 25 cents each.  She said the cards were ones from within her family.  They traditionally kept all the cards they gave to one another and they had so many she needed to part with some.  She was a very sweet lady, she was so pleased that my friend and I appreciated them so much.  I picked out some of the cutest critter ones.  The one with the kitties has flocking on the dress and the Christmas one has pretty glitter on the snow.

More bunnies!  I could not pass up this package that had two honeycomb bunnies in it!  These are so cute!

It is so cool the way the eggs are also honeycombs. I was amazed at how, what looked like a straight piece turned into the these round shapes as I folded them back.  The copyright on the package for this one is 1979, not sure if it was also made then.  I put a little bit of pink grass and a chick in the basket to finish it up!

This card isn't an Easter card, but it has a sweet rabbit on it.  He goes from laying in his PJs....
...to dressed and ready to hit the town! I actually found this card at the thrift store which was really surprising!

And this little vintage Ucagco bunny looks like he's taken a couple tumbles and been put back together--but for less than a dollar, no way he was staying at the store! He is so adorable.  He has fur under his hat and on his backside.

Hubby found this funky 1960s fish towel ring by Syroco.  We always check out the Syroco stuff.  I have a narrow wall in the bathroom that this will fit on.  I'd like to find just the right vintage towel to hang from it, it would be purely ornamental.

A couple little things for the kitsch korner!   Hubby found another Danish modern style owl--the one with the yellow eyes and dilated pupils.  These owls have these great shapes that fits nicely in your hand.  This little ceramic vase has a blue and white made in Japan sticker.  It caught my eye, I wrestled with whether I should get it and then had this feeling I would regret it if I didn't. I really like the shape of it.  I would love to find some vintage acrylic/lucite flowers for it.  Have you ever seen those?  They are poured and the backs are flat -- a wire stem inserted before they hardened.  I had some growing up. Wish I still had them.

Acrylic/Lucite flowers on wire stems on ebay

I saw some just the other day at the thrift, they were inserted in an acrylic/lucite base.  Unfortunately they were all green and though I don't remember how much they were, I remember they were more than I was willing to pay. I see them on ebay/Etsy, some apparently are made by Wondermold.  I doubt mine were, they were bought in Germany.  Here is a picture with some in a clump of Lucite--mine were just on long wire stems.

I did find Pyrex last week as well.  I posted that here on Pyrex Collective III.

There weren't a lot of finds for me last week.  (I didn't include hubbies books or curiosities for his library). A handful of treasures is like I like it.  I love thrifting and treasure hunting, but all this stuff adds up!  It's probably time for me to do a sweep again and see if I  have anything I need to part with!

  4. What wonderful finds! I love the sweet seller who was so happy her cards would go to a good home. Why don't they make cards this cute anymore? I like to pick up vintage scrapbooks on ebay when they are reasonable, and so often you see all these holiday cards pasted in. I wonder if people did that regularly, kept all the cards? So glad they did!

The additions to your corner are wonderful-that vase couldn't be more perfect. The owls are adorable, and it all works together so well. Oh, I also remember those flowers-I am sure we had them on an end table during my childhood. I remember loving the feel of them, smooth in your hand. I hope you can find some!

  8. I remember back then we had those acrylic flowers...we also had the ones that were like a thin plastic dipped in wire flowers...not sure if we made them or bought them at the craft fair. And, at that craft fair in the '60s we bought those Japan ceramic figurines..which I now collect since everything disappeared long ago.
A dollar for a Putz??!! That's a bargain. I was just at an estate sale and there was one lone little putz with broken window for $6! I had some large ones I found at a thrift store (rare to find at thrifts), but I ended up donating all but one back because they were so dirty & not good colors.
I also scored awhile back at an estate on vintage pipe cleaners...I craft a lot so these were great to find...the old ones are made so much better.

    1. I think I know which thin plastic flowers you are talking about Tammy. I remember straw flowers being really in too.

Ouch! That's a lot for a putz! Yay on the chenille stems--I totally agree, the quality of the old ones are soooo much better, that's why I seek them out!

    1. Same here, don't find the cards much. I think I might find more if I got to the flea market regularly, but I have to be in the mood to hit that place. Tends to be crowded and not much in the way of finds for me.
