Thrifty Finds and Creations -- Last of 2016

The new year is right around the corner and I decided to look through my photos and see what I haven't posted.

Hubby spots vintage at the thrifts even though he doesn't necessarily know if it is for sure.  Vintage Hazel Atlas striped glasses, good find in my parts as Hazel Atlas doesn't come up often for me.

These vintage hand painted eggshell mini lights were a super find!! I love the graphics, couldn't believe my luck.

Not that I intended to have a collection of vintage made in Japan birds, but I keep finding them. This year I found the peacocks.

Some glass work I did before the holidays, I was quite busy the weeks before Christmas this year.

Pyrex Terra earrings wired in sterling silver with carnelian, agate and amber beads.  (All my vintage glass work is made from shards sent to me by collectors.  I don't break dishes for my work, there is plenty broken in shipping unfortunately).

Very little of my work is created with the intention to sell. I either make pieces in exchange for broken shards or as custom work on request. More of my ornaments are requested these days. They are fun to make and some glass is better suited to ornaments because of the scale of the pattern. My ornaments are generally 3 to four inches long.

There was Pyrex over the holidays.  Charcoal snowflake Thanksgiving leftover dish to slowly reheat in the oven on black Friday.  Nice to come home to hot lunch after shopping!

Life's Interruptions - Getting Back into the Swing of Things

So, I've been catching up on some glass work that I had to put off due to illness last month.  I HAVE
to learn how to slow down because I think it was a matter of time before things caught up with me.  And even though I try and stay healthy and eat well, I have to step it up a notch in order to ensure I feel the best I can.  I've thrifted a little and still trying to keep my buying in check.  Had fun working on some exchange pieces for people that sent me glass and even managed to finish a pair of earrings I'm putting up for sale--they've been sitting since August.

I'm limiting my use of vintage opal dishes in the kitchen and opting for melamine mixing bowls since they are lighter and easier on my hands.  I've been picking up clear vintage bake ware and recently I found a set of 4 Maid of Honor custard cups.  A turquoise Maynard hand mixer and towels also very handy and will be used.  Happy little finds.

Love the round Pyrex casseroles.  I'm replacing my opals with clear.  I'm cooking more than ever, my diet requires everything from scratch and well, I have to be able to toss stuff in the dishwasher.  Clear vintage Pyrex came in shapes and  sizes that there are no opal equivalents for, so that's neat--additional variety.

Happy to be back at things, when I couldn't physically do much I did a lot of reading.  So I still managed to not be idle!

Hazel Atlas Glass Ornament

I made this lovely ornament from a shard of a Hazel Atlas punch bowl.  I continue to receive shards from collectors who can't bring themselves to tossing them in the garbage. I drafted this post last year and never published it.

Dream Find!

It's really heating up in our parts.  Was out early to make it home by noon.  I'll not complain about summer though!! Little bit of stuff going on like how  I was happy as punch to pick up this vintage bullet planter locally. A very reasonable price at that!

I captured a moment in the kitchen.  Freshly picked cherry tomatoes in a vintage pottery bowl.

After finding pink Hazel Atlas crinoline dishes at the thrift, I traded for bowls, cups, saucers and a salad plate.

I was dusting my china cabinet and admiring my pretty little things.

I've been doing some exchange work for glass as well as filling custom requests.  Of course I always enjoy a challenge and keeping my hands busy is just what I do.

Sometime these little Pyrex pendants remind me of candy :0)

Thrifty Find, Nifty Trade, Cantaloupe and Crafts!

I decided to post some pictures before I forget them  I'm so busy as usual but didn't want these to get buried. Another one of my many pictures/few words posts. haha!

I traded some Pyrex away for these two gorgeous VEFA bowls.  They stack beautifully with my Hanova bowls.

Sunny Days!

The weather has been changing a lot lately, but the days are getting longer which means I get even more done.  I've planted lettuce starts, snowpeas, strawberries and there is much more to do in the yard!

I've had the best of luck on trades without even trying.  A couple items were offered in exchange for pieces of my handmade jewelry and a couple for some kitsch I had.

A trade that included an Anna Marie enameled plate and another Hocking Glass bowl in a  color I don't have was so exciting.  Sharing my Hocking glass collection on Facebook and here has meant more interest and so it makes it more competitive for me to get additional pieces.  My collection pictures have become a resource for others, but I love to share so it's something I have to accept.  Fortunately I've built relationships with people over the past couple years and they keep a lookout for me.   Finds included Pyrex 045 promotional casserole, Hazel Atlas dish and a cute little donkey.

I've been kept busy with custom orders of my handmade vintage jewelry....

And I wired my test design bracelet in 935 sterling and waiting on the clasps to arrive. This piece is 8" which is too large for me so I'm starting a second one...

And as always, my days include vintage dishware in the kitchen. I've been trying to decide which direction this is going as I still feel like I have too much in the kitchen cabinets.

Even though I'm not the estate sales type shopper, I did make an exception to snag this vintage lava light for hubby for his birthday thanks to a fellow local collector who gave me a heads up!  Hubby is thrilled about it.

More pictures than words, but such is my life!  haha!
