Pyrex Saxony

I've been extremely busy and haven't had time to post, but I received this Pyrex Saxony dish in a trade from a fellow collector and I just have to post it. My Pyrex collection is small these days, but this has been on my wishlist for years.

A Little This and That

I learned how to care for an orchid after receiving one from my neighbor a couple years ago.  I finally decided I've graduated to owning more than one.  Our bargain market store had some for $9.99 today and I got one.  It was all white, all pink or this combination which I chose.

After years of dreaming, I ran into the chance to pick up a round Fire King peach blossom refrigerator dish.  These are the only dishes I am aware of, that have the lids with starbursts.

I've been keeping thrift store finds to a minimum.  Going less frequently helps.  I did find a couple keepers.  Lovely California pottery dish with roosters and 67 pieces of Oneida Community flatware.  

Vintage Glass in my Kitchen - Shards into Jewelry

Inevitably a lot of us Pyrex collectors fall in love with other brands of glass. There is just so much to love out there. I rearranged items on my yellow kitchen shelf that I intend to leave for a very long while. I may replace a few items over time with some special dream pieces. This is my solid color collection of McKee, Jeanette, Glasbake (and Maid of Honor) Pyrex, Fire King and a Delphite bowl set that looks like Fire King but is unmarked and no one knows for sure what it is. I got a little sun in my kitchen this cold rainy morning so I thought I'd take a picture.

I completed some jewelry requests and exchange pieces recently as well. My pieces are made from glass shards sent to me by other collectors.  It's sad to receive dishes in pieces when they are highly sought after collectibles that aren't easy (or cheap) to get, but I do get satisfaction in creating lasting keepsakes from them.

Vintage Fiberglass Bullet Planter - The Flordian in Chartreuse

Once in a while I get a special piece for a special occasion. I'm glad I needed an excuse when this one came along---this bullet planter is everything I wanted in a bullet planter. The color is awesome!

Pyrex in Pink - Rescued Shards

I started the new year off with some exchange work.  I especially love this ornament made from a shard of a Pyrex 045 Golden Rose dish sent to me. The ribbon is from a vintage spool I thrifted.  It's been about 4 weeks since I made anything and I was more than in the mood.

Last Find of 2016 - First Find of 2017

It's been cold and we got through our second winter storm so I haven't hit the thrifts in a while.  My last find in 2016 was a fiberglass shade.  Since I was at the pet store picking up food for my pup today, I ran into that same store and found a base..  I'm thrilled!  I have been looking for a tiered fiberglass shade for YEARS.  The neutral colors work great in my '50s front room. The tulip pattern is in black and gold. The base label indicates Forbes Brothers, PA.

Pyrex Display - Pink and Blue in the Front Room

I started the process of clearing out and redecorating my front room last Spring. It's a work in progress.  I'm using mostly furniture and objects I already have and today I finally put together my first Pyrex display. I thrifted a black shelf  and spray painted it white a couple years.  I included an estate sale find Lava Lamp and thrift store radio clock with starburst design. An embroidered piece I stitched and  framed many years ago finally has a home.  The design came from a book of Chinese transfers. I still have more to do in the room, but it feels quite homey and inviting at this point and it's nice to get this Pyrex out of the closet and where I can see and enjoy it!

Festive Foods in Vintage Dishes - Pyrex and Hazel Atlas

Some traditional German holiday treats in a vintage turquoise Hazel Atlas bowl.  I thrited a complete box of mid century Christmas cards a couple years ago, I set one up for this picture.  Each of the 12 cards in the set has a different illustration.

There are a lot of Pyrex snowflake colors,  but it was so dreary out that I had to pick a color that would cheer me up.   Hot lunch for two in Franciscan Oasis with Americana Star flatware.

Oh Tannenbaum - Traditional Noble Fir and Lametta

This year I gave my husband a noble fir for Christmas and used the Lametta (tinsel) we used on our very first Christmas tree together (decades ago) in Germany.  He loves C7 lights on a tree and so do I! I dressed it with vintage ornaments we thrifted together over the years.  He's been so good about me putting up the aluminum trees for years, I wanted to do this just for him.

I've been thrifting more practical items and trying to keep collectibles to a minimum.  Here are things I couldn't resist!!!

These glass ornaments and bottle brush tree were $1.75 for the bunch.  Great deal!

I often see Ice-O-Mats in various colors with broken blades. This two color with a chubby cutie has perfect blades and fits in with my kitchen decor.

I don't pick up much Pyrex though there always seems to be some out there.  The yellow bowls are from the hard to find 'all yellow' set. I've let go of almost all my bowls, so the butterprint just had to come home with me. All this Pyrex was together at the store so I just scooped it up.

I have collected quite a bit in the way of vintage ornaments and weeded many out so I'm super picky now.  Pink and turquoise are always on the want list. Aren't these wool bluebirds precious????

It seems like even a little decorating ends up to be way more than I planned.  This little confection I put together just for me--vintage finds in a Pyrex Starburst dish.

Vintage Christmas Decorating and New Drapes - 1958 Ranch

I've been extremely busy with the holiday season here.  I decided to post these pictures of the front room I've been turning into girl vintage.  Last time I posted I was waiting for my drapes.  They are here and hung and I'm so excited.  The room feels so cozy now.

I covered the hearth in Flor carpet tile and topped it with a flokati.  I like that it can be used for seating. The fire place screen was cheaply made and I ended up having to spray it with two different types of gold spray paint. I attached the pink wreath I finally made for myself this summer.  Ubiquitous made in Japan vintage angels and a strand of pine cone lights from the thrifts.

My new drapes.  I was fortunate to have someone offer to sew drapes for me.  I picked a retro style pattern that I felt I could live with a long time and not tire of.

As funny as it might sound, I'm glad I have a tight budget.  I really enjoy the hunt for little vintage treasures.  It's fun to find things you fall in love with that you can get for a few dollars or so.   If I had a much bigger budget, I would find it hard to make decisions on what to buy.

I'm keeping it simple this year.  My 4' Evergleam aluminum tree with thrifted turquoise glass balls.  I redecorated my front room this year with mid century finds and styles and excited to add the tree this holiday season.  

Life's Interruptions - Getting Back into the Swing of Things

So, I've been catching up on some glass work that I had to put off due to illness last month.  I HAVE
to learn how to slow down because I think it was a matter of time before things caught up with me.  And even though I try and stay healthy and eat well, I have to step it up a notch in order to ensure I feel the best I can.  I've thrifted a little and still trying to keep my buying in check.  Had fun working on some exchange pieces for people that sent me glass and even managed to finish a pair of earrings I'm putting up for sale--they've been sitting since August.

I'm limiting my use of vintage opal dishes in the kitchen and opting for melamine mixing bowls since they are lighter and easier on my hands.  I've been picking up clear vintage bake ware and recently I found a set of 4 Maid of Honor custard cups.  A turquoise Maynard hand mixer and towels also very handy and will be used.  Happy little finds.

Love the round Pyrex casseroles.  I'm replacing my opals with clear.  I'm cooking more than ever, my diet requires everything from scratch and well, I have to be able to toss stuff in the dishwasher.  Clear vintage Pyrex came in shapes and  sizes that there are no opal equivalents for, so that's neat--additional variety.

Happy to be back at things, when I couldn't physically do much I did a lot of reading.  So I still managed to not be idle!

Dream Find!

It's really heating up in our parts.  Was out early to make it home by noon.  I'll not complain about summer though!! Little bit of stuff going on like how  I was happy as punch to pick up this vintage bullet planter locally. A very reasonable price at that!

I've been doing some exchange work for glass as well as filling custom requests.  Of course I always enjoy a challenge and keeping my hands busy is just what I do.

Let's See....What's Been Happenin'

It's been more of the same...my continuing projects and healthy dose of hunting! We also celebrated another anniversary and hubby wanted me to celebrate it with a new bullet planter for the sitting room that I've been redecorating in mid century style.  Of course I didn't argue with him.

I was gifted a pair of beautiful sterling cuff links for French cuffs.  Though they were intended for menswear, they fit my blouses beautifully.

I've always got a list of projects and picking up this mid century shelf for my new decor is another one. I spent a whole $12.50 on it.  It's simple and the tops are laminated and show wear. I'll prime and paint it in a blonde tone and add a faux wood grain to coordinate with my new space.

When I saw the shelf assembled at the store is was three columns wide, but I decided to make two shelves as I  prefer the look and it fits in my space better.

Picked up this funky vintage lamp and little table that someone made into a stool.  Used the legs on another piece of furnite. I'm going to paint the lamp and rewire it.  I've got a vision.  Hope to purchase a vintage style fiberglass shade in the future. Also found this beautiful orange Krenit bowl.

I'm doing really well in being selective about what thrifted vintage items I bring home.  Pyrex must be a piece I really want for my scaled down collection, something for one of my traders or something I'm certain I can trade.  Pink daisy and friendship met that criteria. I pick up Melmac/melamine dishes for a trader and myself. Was thrilled to find another reindeer Dream Pet like the one that I keep from a healthy collection I had but decided to sell.  This particular guy just gets to me!

Hubby has more time right now and he loves to hunt.  Hawaiiana is one of the things he collects.  There are particular things and brands he looks for and he's been lucky lately.

Pyrex Butterprint 442 bowls in white is one many people I know are missing so I picked it up to trade.  Had to get the yellow/green ashtray for my new room just for its pretty color and periodness LOL

Some things I thrifted couldn't resist and will enjoy. I've since picked up some plastic grape leaves and tendrils for my grapes...orange/red are perfect for the family room decor. I've been wanting some for years but never found a color I really liked. Hubby got a nice rhinestone cufflink set that he will wear to work.  Pink Melmac bowls we will use--they are light weight and can take a lot of abuse.  The glass are simply fabulous!
