Plenty of Thrifty Finds This Week! And Pyrex too!

Found a handful of things this past week, including today so on to posting!!

I found 3 McCall's Needlework and Crafts magazines from the 60s and 70s. They are all winter editions so they have holiday stuff in them which is what I look for, so that was a great find for me.

This little donkey feels like it's chalkware.  It has a label--hand painted Tinkerware from Moorcraft in England. This particular figure is named "Fawn".  I found the male counterpart on Etsy.  I could not leave the thrift without taking this little gal. I tried.  Maybe you can understand why when you see her at her different angles.
I found my very first Melmac!  These plates were cheap and I liked the turquoise and the pattern.  I'll pair them up with my Porlon turquoise bowls!

Vintage Lefton Owls from a garage sales for 25 cents each!  They were dirty and dull and now they shine.  They will go in the laundry room with the other 1960s vintage kitsch!  I want to find some mod flower curtains one of these days for the windows in that room.

I thought this flocked ceramic wall pocket was neat. It's about twelve inches wide at the top.  I have this faux Boston fern tucked in it.

We scooped up the following stuff today. Not a lot for the amount of time and miles we put on our feet, but it was all worth it for a few great nuggets!

I was so happy to get my very own brass jack!  This one is a bit rough as you can see the seams, so it's not one of those high end ones, but I certainly didn't expect that for what I paid.  Here's another picture next to the chip and dip.

Hubby didn't get it AT ALL! He was like "you're gonna buy that?"   I told him "I've seen them on ebay, it's mid century modern sculpture".  He looked it up and I think he's feelin' it now.

I've got some thing with vintage ceramic pillar candle holders made in Japan.  Found these today, 50 cents for the gold and 99 cents for the red make it too hard to pass up.  They are dirty and have wax on them, I know what I'll be doing tomorrow!

Found a couple Christmas craft magazines.  The Magic With Tin Cans is really interesting.  I have an angel ornament I got at the flea market that is made out of the top of a tin can.  The tree on cover is made from numerous cans.  Designers West is 1970, I can't wait to look at it!

I was going to pass up this Swarovski hedgehog, but hubby saw it while I was still in the aisle and talked me into getting it.  He said he would forgo what he was going to get if I would get it--he wanted it that bad.  This guy was mounted to an upside down carved granite candle holder(?)  Fortunately only a wax was used to stick the pieces together and I was able to separate it quite easily.  I have 4 of these I got about 25 years ago--bunny, turtle, duck and elephant.  They are packed away and I really need to dig them out and find a place to put them where they are under the right lighting.  They they sparkle like diamonds when the light is right!

One little Easter find--isn't she precious!!!!!!

I couldn't help but pick up this unopened made in Japan painting and easel dated 1968. I'm fascinated by things in their original packaging.  Like you just plucked it off the shelf.  And the other little painting to the right was 50 cents.  It was only when we dropped back in the store a second time on our way home, and it was still there I decided I would get it.  I think this impressionistic gourd, apple and corn on wood is rendered beautifully!  I love paintings where you can see and feel the texture.

The painting is residing with other vintage finds on the kitsch katcher!

Well!  What a day.  I'm looking forward to relaxing a little.  Thrifting is a lot of work!  Think I'll head over to Pyrex Collective III and post my finds for last week.  You can check it out here!

  1. I love vintage melmac. We ate off melmac in the '60s and I inherited the blue sugar bowl..the only piece left. I found random pieces in different pretty colors at thrifts..so spring like.

    1. You know, I had a few plates inherited from my husband's family years ago and I got rid of them. Now I wish I hadn't!

  2. Your donkey is so sweet! I love melmac, too. I have some solid blue plates somewhere. I thrifted this morning but didn't find much. Tomorrow I'm going to a thrift store one town over that's hardly ever open, so maybe I'll find something good.

  3. EEEEE.....That is me squealing for joy at your finds! Where to start?? The little donkey is adorable, what a sweet little face. I have never seen the brass jack before, so funny that your husband was like "huh?", but now he is totally on board. I love your little Swarovski-but I was wondering-it looks like a hedgehog to me. I say that since we once had one, and I LOVE them so much. It is so cute whatever it is :) Congrats on these great finds!

    1. Thanks for the hedgehog correction Maureen!!! A little too late in the the evening to write that post perhaps?! As much as I hadn't planned on putting the donkey on the kitsch korner, it seems to be the perfect place. You can't miss her and she is cuddled up quite nicely!

    1. Yeah Anny, I've seen those jacks on line and thought they were cool and then forgot about them. I too didn't want to pay those prices. I did still pay $11 for this, which for me is more than I like to spend, but it was a no brainer!

I've got the box of other Swarovski animals out...I'm going to try and get this display figured out soon and then I'll post a pic!
