Bowls, Bowls, Bowls!!!

First I have to mention the sun is out and not only am I joyous over this, but the pup who usually is napping about now is on high alert.  The sun comes out and he sits in front of the patio door waiting for anything that moves so he can come in and scream to us, and I mean scream!  It's his nature to protect the herd, but sometimes it feels like he's trying to drive us off!

I had to snap some pictures this morning.  I cleaned finds last night and need to put them where ever--so before I forget what I got, here goes!

Got something on my wish list.  There is all that gold and turquoise glass out there and I need at least one example.  Drinking glasses aren't a good idea as I don't have a place to display them.  Something bigger is more like what I had in mind, actually, this item was high on my wish list.

Can it get any more atomic?  It's missing the bracket, I know where there is a set (of a different design/color) with a bracket, not sure what the price is on it.  I could get a bracket that way, but I'm not sure I really want one.

Then there was this.  I can't believe I found another piece of Franciscan Duet so soon!  The is the huge salad bowl.  It does have a chip, but perfect otherwise.  I'm okay with the chip.  I'm thinking about getting some epoxy putty and repairing it.  I'll have to practice on something else first.  I don't think it would be hard for me to repair.  This cost me $5.40 which, for what it is, chip and all, is still a great deal!

And there was Pyrex, (which I post on Pyrex Collective every Monday) but my non-Pyrex glass find was this fantastic piece!

Federal Atomic Dots!  Wow!   Of course, this makes me want to find the rest of the set.  First time I have ever run into one of these--it was so exciting!

As always, these were all a great surprise.  Things had been dry for a while so I don't expect much when I go out, and when stuff like this turns up--I'm flabbergasted!

  1. Bowls are addictive. Love that atomic set! I was born in the early 60's, so that style has a particular emotional resonance with me. I have a couple of beautiful sets, but it just isn't enough. I need to figure out how I can finagle more storage/display space.

    1. That is true of much that I buy Eileen, there is that connection and it feels good and right, it belongs. I would love to have the Danish Modern furniture we had in the 60s. I so want a credenza/sideboard, I had the chance to get one that was English made and not high quality, but would have been sufficient for me at a great price and I didn't jump on it. Ratz!

    2. Then you would appreciate the fact that I have 6 of these danish modern chairs:

My dad bought them in 1964 and I am the lucky family member who got them. They are not in the greatest of shape, my husband and kids aren't crazy about them, and they've been used hard, but I can't part with them.

    3. Lucky you Eileen. Even after being loved all those years, a little restoration once the kids are out of the house--they'll look great! It doesn't bother me at all that vintage things don't look brand new.

  2. I have a bracket for some Pyrex - I never use it - they're not the most sturdy things, I think it looks nice side by side!!

    Love your little Federal bowl!

    1. I agree with you Jill, I think they look great side by side too. I did however get the bracket yesterday, the thrift store was willing to sell it to me off the other set! I don't think I'll actually use it--just for looks.

    1. Yes Holly, the vintage dishes are soooo hard to pass up. So many wonderful things to choose from, how can we just stick to a pattern, or two, or three....

    1. Oh wouldn't l just love the circus set Sir Thrifty! I have yet to see just one of those bowls in the wild. This my first piece of Federal. I saw the square brown flower design, two different size bowls not too long ago, but those I easily passed up.

  5. Wonderful! That is amazing you found the Duet so soon after the last discovery! The Franciscan gods are smiling on you :) I love the bowl set-I bought a large bowl that is somewhat similar at a garage sale years ago-I actually didn't know it was part of a set till later. Never have seen the smaller bowl anywhere. That is great you were able to get the bracket!

    1. Maureen, I still can't believe I got that Duet salad bowl!! And wouldn't you know, after I got that bracket, I found one in the metal stuff yesterday at GW for 89 cents! I had this tugging feeling I should wait a little, but on the way home, the day before, hubby said "let's go to that store so you can get that bracket". I picked it up anyway, if you find your bowl and need it, or get a set without at bracket, I'll send it to you!

    2. Thanks Evie! I feel like I know exactly what you mean with that "tugging" feeling. A sixth sense maybe?? Do I get that feeling when I "think" I might find something cheaper somewhere else? Sometimes I think I feel that way when something is easily accessible and not hard to find-like I haven't worked hard enough-I shouldn't buy it!
